It isn’t often that you can walk to a venue in order to shoot your couples wedding. Yet here we are with a picture from just such an event. It’s the first time it has happened to me and it was at The Bedford Hotel in Tavistock.

How thoughtful of the charming Karen and Graham to hold their special day literally 5 minutes walk from my house! It was the first wedding of the season for us and we can’t wait to share some more shots with you.
This is one of my favourite shots from the day for many reasons, not the least of which is that it was one of the only times we managed to get outside. For the majority of the day we were stuck inside the Bedford due to the inclement Dartmoor weather, part and parcel of a venue on the edge of this wonderful place of outstanding natural beauty.

Towards the end of the day Karen and Graham, grateful for the opportunity to get some fresh air, agreed to come outside when we had a break in the weather. Obviously it was dark by this time, which always makes things a little trickier, but with careful use of supplementary lighting from behind the two of them I managed to create the lovely rim lighting you can see in the picture. It perfectly outlines their faces and pulls them off the empty dark space around them, which I love. It offers depth and I feel that it really draws you in to the moment.
